My favourites from Coke Studio Sufi Gems

Sufi is a tradition of Islam that promotes love for God. In an era of religious fanaticism, Sufism is one of the few traditions that transcends the religious barriers.

Coke Studio is a music show that needs no introduction. And here, Coke Studio brings the best of Sufi music to music lovers across the world.

So, here’s presenting my top five Sufi numbers from Coke Studio –

  1. 1 Tu Maane Ya Na Maane

This legendary song by the Wadali brothers has beautiful lyrics that speak of submission to the Almighty.

  2. 2 Piya Ghar Aaya

This song is a Sufi qawwali by Fareed Ayaz, Abu Muhammad Qawwal and brothers. It has lyrics by Baba Bulleh Shah and it is a song of sheer joy that shines all through it.

  3. 3 Tajdar-e-Haram

A tribute to the Sabri brothers, this one was sung by none other than Atif Aslam. This is a song of prayer and supplication to the Almighty.

  4. 4 Yaar Vekho

Sanam Marvi could be growing to become the next Abida Parveen in the Sufi sphere. This is a song about self realisation and reflection.

  5. 5 Chaap Tilak

The song and the singer need no introduction. Abida Parveen is the queen of modern Sufi, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has won hearts with his beautiful music. This song is one that speaks of elation in submission to God.
